Bosch Rexroth introduces autonomous landing system for motion-compensated gangways
Bosch Rexroth has developed an autonomous landing solution for motion-compensated gangways it believes will improve safety and performance when transferring personnel to offshore structures.
Landing systems usually combine drive technology and digital sensors to compensate for the movement of a vessel on which a gangway is installed.
However, manual control is required when engaging the landing with a platform. Depending on the level of experience of the operator and on weather conditions, this can be challenging.
Responding to this, Bosch Rexroth has developed an autonomous landing solution that uses a combination of radar technology, cameras and sensors.
The system automatically attaches the landing to the required site without the need for manual input. This means that operation is consistent and reliable, regardless of weather and conditions.
Once connected, the landing utilises motion compensation and the vessel’s dynamic positioning system to ensure a safe, steady connection between the ship and the platform.
Bosch Rexroth business development manager for Barge Master systems Rene Coppens said, “There are a number of benefits to an autonomous landing system.
“It improves safety, but perhaps most importantly, our system can work in difficult conditions and does not depend on availability of operators, so it can improve uptime and availability.”
The autonomous landing solution is now available for Barge Master motion-compensated gangways for newbuild vessels and should be available for retrofit later this year.
