SMST to provide offshore access solution for Taiwanese SOV
SMST in the Netherlands is to provide an access and cargo tower with motion-compensated gangway for Ta San Shang Marine’s service operation vessel (SOV).
The Dutch company is also to supply the vessel with a 3D motion-compensated crane.
The SOV will be the first to operate in Taiwanese waters. The vessel owner is a joint venture between Japanese ship owner MOL and Ta Tong Marine.
Vard Vung Tau shipyard in Vietnam, which is building the vessel, awarded SMST a contract to deliver the access and cargo tower, motion-compensated gangway and 3D motion-compensated crane for the newbuild.
The SOV will work for Ørsted on the Greater Changhua offshore windfarm in the Taiwan Strait, starting in Q1 2022.
The equipment supplied by SMST will safely transfer the turbine maintenance personnel and cargo to offshore wind turbines.
SMST said the gangway “will be equipped with assisted landing and there will be a shared operator chair installed on the ship’s bridge to control both the crane and gangway.”
“This will increase overall efficiency of the vessel,” said SMST sales manager Menno de Jong.
SMST will deliver the equipment in Q3 2021. Scheduled for delivery in early 2022, the SOV will use the Port of Taichung as its base, where Ørsted’s future O&M facilities will be located, due to its proximity to the sites, water depth and navigational access.
